MNS Firm Tour (15)

Our SCE Members had a chance to reconnect with MNS. They revisited the firm, and had the opportunity to see first-hand the progress of the LOVR overpass project, in San Luis Obispo, since their last visit.

Student Faculty BBQ (1)

On April 23, our students were able to meet with the civil and environmental faculty outside of the classroom setting and socialize while enjoying a delicious BBQ.

Open House Club showcase (6)

SCE held a booth at Open House Club showcase where prospective students were able to ask questions about the civil engineering program and play with our life-sized Jenga! Concrete canoe and steel bridge teams talked about their first place achievements at PSWC conference.

SCE members volunteered with YMF and ASCE SLO Branch members at the local San Luis Obispo High School Career Fair.

Hearst Castle Tour (21)

SCE, SEAOC, SWE, and the Santa Clara University student chapter of ASCE took an engineering and architecture tour of Hearst Castle.

Christmas Cookie Decorating (50)

SCE got together to share some Christmas spirit and decorate cookies, drink hot chocolate, and participate in a gingerbread house making contest all while listening to Christmas music.

ASCE SLO Branch, YMF, and SCE Bowling Night! (20)

The three ASCE affiliated groups came together on Wednesday, November 19th, to bowl, eat pizza, and hang out. Members from ASCE SLO Branch, YMF, and SCE were all present. A good time was had by all!

SCE and ITE Fall Firm Tours (76)

SCE joined ITE to tour two local transportation projects. The students first visited Highway 46, outside of Paso Robles, to see the various improvement that Caltrans has been working on there. Some projects include a new bridge, storm drain tunnel that also serves as an area for animals to cross, and road widening. Next the students Visited the office of MNS Engineers in San Luis Obispo, where they learned more about the civil engineering firm and they various projects they work on. After the office tour, the group went onsite to the LOVR Overpass project that MNS Engineers is currently working on. Though construction recently began, the students were able to learn more about what the area will look like in 18 months when the project is completed.

Concrete Canoe Paddling Fall 2014 (23)

SCE members loved paddling with the Concrete Canoe captains in Morro Bay on Saturdays and Sundays during the fall quarter

IM Soccer Fall 2014 (15)

SCE members enjoyed relaxing and playing soccer with each other.

Transbay Transit Center Tour (13)

SCE members carpooled up to San Francisco to tour the construction site of the new Transbay Transit Center. While there, they met up with UC Berkeley and Stanford ASCE student members.

Cal Poly vs. UCSB Soccer Game Tailgate (21)

SCE members enjoyed a BBQ and socializing with other friends while playing Kan Jam and corn hole before attending the Cal Poly vs. UCSB soccer game. Unfortunately, Cal Poly lost 2-0.

Project Team BBQ (11)

SCE members learned about the various project teams they can join by participating in a marshmallow pretzel bridge competition led by the Steel Bridge team and "canoe tag" led by the Concrete Canoe team.

Langan Treadwell Rollo firm tour and Warriors basketball game (52)

SCE members drove up to San Francisco to visit the office of Langan Treadwell Rollo and visit an exciting project that they are doing the geotechnical work. After the tour, students ate dinner in Berkeley and then went to watch the Warriors beat the Denver Nuggests!

Bonfire with ASME, ITE, SEAOC, and SENVE (21)

SCE joined with for other student clubs to host a bonfire for students at Grover Beach in Pismo.

WOW Club Showcase (8)

SCE met new students, answered their questions, and invited them to pull a Janga block. Even Cal Poly's President Armstrong stopped by.

College Connections! (18)

SCE Officers led new civil engineering students through a group project that involved constructing a dot structure.

Officer Retreat (2)

The SCE Officers spent one night camping at Lopez Lake to bond and prepare for the new year.
